Hot Momma Monday: Thanksgiving Hangover
This weekend was full of good old fashioned American over-indulgence. I ate my weight in turkey and potatoes. And pie. And whipped cream. Side note: it’s so nice to be a grown up because I can put as much Cool Whip on my pie as I want and no one can say ANYTHING! Also, I MAY have had more Cool Whip than pie. Also also, I keep reading Cool Whip in my head the way Stewie in Family Guy says it.
This was a great weekend, full of eating and shopping. And at the end of it all, my total weight loss/gain was -5 from when I started this venture, which really isn’t all that bad! But today I have to get back on the horse, start drinking more water, start eating less fast food. I don’t have a holiday party for a while yet, so I have time to shed those stubborn 5 pounds I’ve been trying to shed for the last month.
But, on another note, I made an ENTIRE Thanksgiving dinner ALL BY MYSELF! If that’s not a huge way to boost self confidence, I don’t know what is! I didn’t wreck the turkey like I was afraid of. In fact, it may have been the tenderest, juiciest, most flavorful turkey I’ve EVER had. Side note #2: Cooking a turkey in an oven bag is the way to go. No basting. Crisp skin. Moist turkey.
I made Pioneer Woman’s Creamy, Dreamy Mashed Potatoes, but slightly different. Lets just say that won’t win any awards for most low-fat Thanksgiving recipe. I made my great-grandma’s stuffing, which was just as yummy 2 days after Thanksgiving. I whipped up some homemade cranberry sauce, which was WAY easier than I thought it would be and WAY tastier than canned cranberry sauce. I cooked my grandma’s green beans which include the yummy addition of bacon. I made Timmy Salad – Tim’s favorite fruit salad from when he was a kid.
The only thing that wasn’t great was the gravy. I could NOT get it to thicken for the life of me, so my sister-in-law stepped in and gave it a shot. It didn’t taste terrible, but I wasn’t great, either. Next year? I’m buying the gravy.
It was a HUGE boost to my self-esteem that I was able to make such a huge, delicious dinner that everyone raved about. I really like entertaining and cooking for big groups! I might have to make this “Thanksgiving” thing a yearly deal
How was your Thanksgiving? What successes did you have?
Hot Momma Monday: Dressing Up Your Home/Workspace
Hot Momma Monday is about so much more than just weight loss (PS – 2.5 pounds to go to reach my goal of 10 pounds lost before Thanksgiving. My nemesis, though, has been beer. Stupid empty calories!!). Hot Momma Monday was started as a way to better myself so that I’m not just schluffing my way through life.
I’ve talked about hair styles, makeup, vitamins, dieting, fashion and today, I’m going to talk about dressing up your home/workspaces.
I’m fortunate enough to have my very own office where I work. With a door that closes and everything! I have the ability to hang anything I want on the walls and even have a pet fishy (his name is Dr. Kenneth Noisewater. I used to have another, James Westfal, but he died. I blame Dr. Kenneth Noisewater). I’ve hung up posters from my travels in Europe. I have a bulletin board filled with pictures of my baby and humorous pictures I’ve found online. It makes my space a little more “me” and a little more comfortable.
One of my additions to my office has been my Scentsy Plug-in warmer. It’s just a nightlight with a bowl to hold the scented wax, so it doesn’t take up hardly any room. About every two weeks or so, I switch up the scent. In the summertime I like to use White Tea and Cactus or Black Raspberry Vanilla. Lately I’ve been rocking the Cloves and Cinnamon which initially was a bit strong for me. So I added a Vanilla Cream to the Cloves and Cinnamon and made my office smell like Pumpkin Pie! (Check out some more awesome Scentsy “recipes” here)
At home, I have a mid-sized warmer that I keep in the kitchen. I’ve been using Autumn Sunset A LOT at home. I love the warm, spicy scent! And at Christmas time, I keep that warmer stocked with Cozy Fireside, a nice cinnamon-y, Christmas-y flavor
You know what’s even better about Scentsy? I’m hosting an online party! WOOHOO!! It runs from today until December 3rd, so you have plenty of time to think about what you want. Plus, these make AWESOME Christmas gifts (family members: hint, hint!) and will be here in time for the holidays! How awesome is that?
Head on over to my friend Vicki’s Scentsy site (yes, yes, the Twi-hard
) and click on “Nicci’s Winter Wonderland.” That will take you right to my party where you can order your goods and they’ll ship right to you!
And you know what I’m going to do? I’m going to sweeten the pot a bit. For three people who comment on this post and purchase from the party, I’ll send you a scent circle in the scent of your choice as a thank you
So go! Shop! And if you’re interested in hosting a Scentsy party of your own, contact Vicki and she’d be more than happy to set you up!
Disclosure – I do get party rewards based on a percentage of sales of this party. Check out Vicki’s site for details on what these rewards are should you want to host a party of your own. For the giveaway, no purchase is necessary, but let’s play fair, eh? I’ll be buying the scent circles with my very own dollars, have them ship to me, then send them off to the winners.
