Abby has been in the world for one entire month. It feels like an eternity and at the same time, like the blink of an eye.
The transition from one kid to two has been so great, and as I’ve said before, I’m having so much fun.
Miss Abby is a little pistol! She’s going to be a sassy one, that kid! She always needs to be moving, bouncing, or swaying. LORD HELP YOU if she is not doing any one of those things! She’s starting to have more and more awake time, which is fantastic, because I cannot stop looking into her gorgeous blue eyes.
One awesome milestone for the two of us is that I’m still breastfeeding her, with no signs of stopping! When Aric was two weeks old, I’d quit putting him to the breast and started exclusively pumping. That lasted less than two weeks and by the time he was a month old, he was on formula full time. But this time we’re still going strong! I have started pumping once a day (in the mornings when my boobs are WAY full) and Tim’s been able to give her a couple bottles here and there. I have enough of a stash now that I can be gone for a pretty extended period of time, so that’s awesome!
Here are some fun one month facts about Abby:
Likes – Eating, sleeping, pacis, swinging, bouncing, moving, her car seat but only when it’s moving or the car is moving, watching us, Aric’s TV shows, baths, and snuggling.
Dislikes – Being still, being cold, diaper changes, clothing changes, gas bubbles, when she can’t find the nipple, the hours of 9:30pm to 11:30pm, schedules/predictability, and when Aric takes her paci or tries to force it in her mouth.
Wearing – I just put away my first set of too small clothes. It was awful. Her pot belly is just too big for newborn sized leggings. She’s still fairly comfortable in newborn sizes, but there are some 0-3 and 3 month (which is really 0-3 based on the weights printed on the tags) items that fit or are just a titch too big. And like I said, the newborn leggings have been retired, and I think there will be some onesies following soon. Oh, and size one diapers. She outgrew the newborn ones in about 2 weeks, thanks to the pot belly
Milestones (from Baby Center):
Mastered Skills (most kids can do):
Lifts head when lying on tummy - Oh yes! She’s got quite a strong neck it actually frightens me sometimes
Responds to sound - Yep, but at random times. The dog can be barking right next to her while she’s sleeping, and she won’t budge. But accidentally kick Aric’s fishing game and it’s “OH HOLY HELL WHAT WAS THAT SOUND?!”
Stares at faces - Yep! She especially likes watching her brother.
Emerging skills (half of kids can do)
Follows objects briefly with eyes - Yep. She’s been doing this for weeks now, following my face back and forth when I move it.
Vocalizes: oohs and aahs - Sometimes. And it’s the cutest thing ever. It generally means “Hey guys! I’m awake! Come play with me! Also, I probably have to poop. Thanks.”
Can see black-and-white patterns - Erm, sure?
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
Smiles, laughs - I SWEAR she smiled at me the other day, and my mom saw it, too and agrees! So Imma say yes to the smiling, but we’re not close on the laughing.
Holds head at 45-degree angle - Almost. We’re working on it.

Shut up – she’s a month already??? So cute – and I love her little Abby Cadabby doll
I get tears when I retire sizes, too, especially since I know for sure we won’t be having a third.
