Bikes and other such things

I. Am. EXHAUSTED.

Bone tired. Can’t even move in the mornings. In bed by 9pm. Completely and utterly done for.

I blame the sudden shift in weather (cold, warm, cold, HOT HOT HOT, warm, EFFING COLD) plus the end of the school semester (I have about a thousand projects DUE RIGHT NOW AHHH!!).

Blogging? Yeah, that’s taken a back seat. I’d rather read the entire Hunger Games series in one weekend write my papers for school the day before they are due on time.

Oh, quick word about The Hunger Games series: Did anyone else feel like it ended with more questions than you started with? Like, WTF? Also, why wasn’t Canada helping? Or Mexico? Or EVERY OTHER COUNTRY ON THE PLANET? I get that Panem used to be America, but, what, were the rest of the countries completely obliterated? Also, I wasn’t really pleased with the Peeta/Gale/Peeta/Gale WHO WILL IT BE ending. The whole way it was like WHO WILL SHE CHOOSE, then the last page BAM! Here’s her answer. The end. Have a nice day.

That said, I very much enjoyed the series. I think I will read it again, though. When I read books, the first time I read it quickly and to get the story. Which is why I finished the books in one weekend. Because I NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN! Then I go back and read it again to pick up on all the stuff I missed when I was flying through the first time. When I know what will happen, I pay better attention.

Which is why I want to re-read the Harry Potter series. Even though I never read books 4 or 5.

Moving on.

Life. In the way. Of basically everything.

Related: If I disappear from May 14- June 28 that’s because I’m taking two 4-credit classes in a shortened 6-week time period. I will probably die.

But you know what else?

It’s my birth week.

Yep. An ENTIRE WEEK dedicated to my birthday.

Which means I’ve been eyeing birthday present ideas. Like this one:

Or this one:

Or especially ESPECIALLY this one:

BIKES!!

Can you tell what I want for my birthday?

I bet you can’t even guess. Not even a little.

And so endeth the most random, ridiculous blog post I think I’ve ever written.

Hey – How many people with ADD does it take to change a light bulb??

..

WANNA GO RIDE BIKES?!

There’s a kick ace, HUGE park in West Bloomington (where Chutes and Ladders resides) (also right by our old townhouse) but it’s way on the other side of town. We’d have to load up the bikes in the car, and I don’t know how we’d fit Aric’s trailer in there. We should get him a bike seat! I’m sure there are some great trails down in the river valley, though! I’ll have to check it out.

Things that make me sad, getting a new BIKE and then having the weather turn horrible cold. Too cold to want to freeze hands biking. Yep, that’s what I hate.

I asked on twitter about the lack of other countries in the book, people said for simplicity for the sake of the story. Also, no mention of religion. Not even in a sort of “the way things used to be” sort of way. Again, people said it was for simplicity sake.

I was happy with who it was she picked at the end, and liked the epilogue. BUT it was too, AHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT IS GOING ON AHHHHHHHH oh look, life is normal. The end.

It wasn’t satisfying. And it’s bugging me. I just read it this weekend (all three books) for the first time, and I can’t even read anything else because it bugs me. I am going to try to see the movie this weekend just to see how it compares.

Yeah, I have to keep reminding myself that it’s written for adolescents, so it’s missing some of the abstract concepts that are found in books for grown-ups.

I was VERY happy with who she ended up with (even though my sister wasn’t) I just wish there would have been more behind the one paragraph that outlined her choice. It was very anti-climactic. And I wish they would have told me more in the epilogue. Like, HOW is life normal? What’s different? What’s the same? You know? I’m hoping the next two movies will clear that up for me and add some story there.

As far as the movie – it’s missing some key (and not key) parts of the book. Mostly for time and because it’s hard to make a movie out of a book that’s told from one character’s point of view. AFTER you see the movie (not before, cause there are spoilers), read this post: http://www.film.com/movies/differences-between-the-hunger-games-book-and-movie It compares the differences from the book and the movie and whether they were good or bad changes.

I had ALL those thoughts about The Hunger Games – which is why you need to read the companion novel. It’s like a book club in a book, breaking down crazy issues in THGs and making comparisons to other dystopian society novels. (http://www.amazon.com/The-Hunger-Games-Companion-Unauthorized/dp/0312617933)

And as for bikes, I had my heart set on this one (http://www.velorbis.com/classic-vintage-bicycle/classic-retro-ladies-bicycle/velorbis-dannebrog-classic-red-bicycle) for awhile, then broke down and got one off craig’s list. Turns out I don’t really like bike riding for transportation purposes, and so never do it. So it’s a good thing I didn’t spend a lot on a bike!

Don’t die while you’re taking those classes, but if you need my help – you know where to find me!

    lastly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: sorry for littering this comment with links. no wait, not sorry. ha! :P

I know I’m late to the party here, but I have had this starred in my Reader for a while so I could come and comment… I had the SAME issues with the end of Hunger Games – I am the kind of person who falls into books and has trouble letting go of characters as it is, but then this was SO abrupt it compounded that. I really wish there was another chapter to flesh out the epilogue.

I get so wrapped up in the characters that I’m STILL dreaming about Katniss or being one of the tributes! And I keep reliving that last page (before the epilogue) over and over in my mind!! I’m hoping the movies will better explain that whole ending thing to me.
