Exactly two years ago today, I posted pictures of our finished nursery for Aric. And this past weekend, Tim and I spent more time in there changing it from a nursery to a Big Boy Room.
Someone hold me.
I wanted to wait until Christmas time to switch him to the bed, but over the weekend when I tried to put Aric down for a nap, he said “No,” and climbed right out! Ok then! Switching time it is!
There were a lot of cords and various things that were NOT toddler proof (like the hutch that was not anchored to the wall), so we did a bit of rearranging, adding wall shelves, and generally cleaning and making a toddler proof room. Here’s how it looks now:

No, I don't know who those children in the frames are. I haven't printed out pictures to put there yet!
If you go back and look at the pics of the nursery, you’ll see the white IKEA hutch as well as the closet. Those features have stayed the same, but the hutch has been secured to the wall and the clock has been removed.
I really wanted to paint his room before the switch, but we had to do it so fast we just didn’t have the time. When we get the time, I want to paint it a nice, bold, bright blue color like Jenny from What the Blog? has for her babes’ room. Oh well, maybe over the winter we can ship Aric off to his grandparents for a weekend and transform his room
As far as the actual switch to the bed, it couldn’t have gone better. The first time we tried was for a nap. His usual naptime was pushed back about an hour while we were trying to hurry up and finish the room, so he was extra tired. It took just one time of me going in there to tell him to get back in bed before I didn’t hear a peep. I went in to check on him and he was sound asleep …. on the floor! I scooped him back up and in bed he went. He only slept for about an hour, but that night he got in bed and STAYED in bed all night long!!
The second day, naptime was not a problem, but bedtime was! We put him down and after not hearing anything for a while, Tim went to check on him. Every single thing that had been on his bed was on the floor …. including Aric, LOL!! We put everything back together and scooped him back up. And again, he stayed there all night.
He LOVES showing his room off and loves to run in there, jump in bed, yell “NIGH NIGH” and fake snore. Then he’ll pop his head up and say “MORNING!” Silly little boy!
So all my freaking out about him not making the transition was for naught. He loves his room and even though my heart is broken because I don’t have a baby in a crib any more, I can at least kiss him while he’s sleeping now

Mommy hopes I handle the transition as well as Aric did! And she really needs to get moving on making it happen because Squishy will be taking my crib in January!
My room is not really the same blues as Jenny’s, but it’s a nice cheerful one – it looks like Tiffany box blue… It’s Tropicana Cabana (Benjamin Moore) if you’re interested. http://coleemmett.blogspot.com/2010/04/twitter-home-tour.html#nursery
