One of my goals this year is to read more books. Last year I read a total of 4 books. And three were by the same author (they were quick reads).
The biggest problem I have with reading? I get so engrossed in the book , it takes over my thoughts, dreams, and free time until I finish the book. When I read book 6 in the Harry Potter series, I finished it within 24 hours (I didn’t sleep much). After it was done, I cried and felt sad to my very core. I felt as though a very close friend had died.
I know. Crazy, right?
When I read the first book in the Dexter series, I started an inner monologue whenever I went about my day. It wasn’t as clever as Dexter’s inner voice, but still, it was there. Oh, and I dreamt I was a serial killer. No lie. I started book two in the series, but before I finished, it was due back to the library and I couldn’t renew it. I think about it at LEAST once a week, wondering what’s going to happen in that book. Who, or what, really is Doakes? What’s going on with the kids? Why is it so different from the TV show, yet equally, if not more, intriguing.
Tim likes to read books in the bathroom. I’ve repeated told him to bring books to the bathroom that I can pick up, read a page, then be OK with just that one page. Things like his Calvin and Hobbes books, his Chuck Klosterman books which are just collections of his essays. NOT novels. Once, he left a novel in there. I read the first chapter. Then I didn’t read any more. For THREE YEARS I thought about the dead man that was frozen into the snowman, because that was all I knew about the story. Why was the man in there? Why the snowman? What’s going on? I finally read it, and now feel much better having received the answers.
Anyway, in summary, I love to read, but I have to have the drive to finish it within a couple days of starting it. And it’s great if I can have someone to talk to after reading it, so I can process what happened and deal with the emotions that I’ve experienced. So I’ve decided to start a book club. And since I don’t have the time to join a real life one, I thought a Twitter Book Club might be fun.
I’m not 100% sure how it’d work. I would like to do at least one book a month, maybe two. We would vote on the category (fiction, non-fiction, etc.), then I would take 5-6 suggestions within that category and we’d vote on the book. Then we’d have 2-4 weeks to finish it, and then discuss it on a scheduled day/time on twitter using the #BookParty hashtag.
So, before I get this started, I wanted to see if there was any interest in this. I’ve posted a poll at the end of this post. It asks if you are interested in doing this, and if so, how long would you like to have to read the book before we discuss it. If there is enough interest generated, we’ll start the voting on the category and then get reading!
Alright, vote! Oh, and if you aren’t following me on Twitter, why don’t you get started, eh? I’m Sticky41284.

I would totally be up for this. I am a voracious reader and would love to do something/talk about what I read. I curl up every night before the lights go out and read on my kindle.
